A new trailer for the upcoming season of Riverdale has just been released and it teases the emotional tribute the cast members are paying to the late actor Luke Perry. According to Marisol Nichols, who portrays "Hermione" in the series, honouring Luke Perry and his character "Fred Andrews" was an essential part of the new season and "the most important thing that we had to do before doing anything else."
Molly Ringwald, who plays the role of "Mary" also highlighted what showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa did to create the best possible sendoff for "Fred Andrews," and said that Aguirre-Sacasa was very smart in waiting a little bit of time and putting his heart to do so in the right way. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner said he didn't want "Fred" to go on a indefinite business trip and instead decided to deal with the character's death in order to honour the late actor in the way he deserved: "We didn’t want to rush into that at the end of the season and give it short shrift or not make that story as great and emotional as it needs to be to honour both the character and the actor," Aguirre-Sacasa explained.
