Another scene, however, without which 'Pretty Woman' would not be the same, almost did not make it into the film. Shortly before the opera visit, "Edward" presents "Vivian" with a necklace. He presents it in a jewelry box. When "Vivian" wants to touch the necklace, "Edward" suddenly closes the lid again. "Vivian" then bursts out laughing.

The audience thus got to see probably the most beautiful laugh in film history, for which Julia Roberts is famous to this day. However, the scene that is so famous today was completely improvised and was not actually in the script, as director Garry Marshall revealed to 'Entertainment Tonight'.

The action was only intended to get Julia Roberts off her guard a bit. The then 23-year-old appeared tired on the set, so Marshall had an idea: "I said, 'Richard, you have to wake her up a little bit, and when she reaches for the box, you have to slam it.' It was a soft box. I would never hurt her."

Obviously, this little prank had an effect, even if the improvised scene was initially only intended as an outtake. In the end, however, the filmmakers liked it so much that it was integrated into the plot. Most fans can no longer imagine 'Pretty Woman' without this little moment.
