Olivia Wilde has been tapped to direct a new female superhero movie for Marvel! As Entertainment Tonight reports, the news was first shared by Deadline on Wednesday, and there's already speculation in the works about what this upcoming project could be!
Wilde hints at her new Marvel project being "Spider-Woman"
Wilde acknowledged the announcement on Twitter, responding to Deadline's tweet about her involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a spider emoji. Even though she didn't say anything, fans were quick to speculate that Wilde's untitled Marvel project could be a "Spider-Woman" movie!
The actress and director also took to Instagram to share a photo of her 6-year-old son Otis wearing a "Spider-Man" costume. She captioned the pic with a heart emoji, and, just like her tweet, fans are taking it as a hint that "Spider-Woman" could be the female superhero at the center of Wilde's exciting new project!

Wilde is the most recent female director to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Her involvement in the untitled movie comes not long after it was announced that Nia DaCosta has been hired to direct Captain Marvel 2. According to Deadline, the script for Wilde's project will be written by Katie Silberman. Amy Pascal is set to produce, with Rachel O’Connor as executive producer. The rest of the details are under wraps!
Wilde previously directed the critically acclaimed 2019 teen comedy Booksmart, and has another movie currently in the works! As Entertainment Tonight reports, her psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling is currently in pre-production.
