In the 17th season of NCIS, "Ziva" (Coté de Pablo, 39) and "Gibbs" (Mark Harmon, 68) will be exposed to a threat that has never existed before. NCIS showrunner Steve Binder told Parade: "Just from the available facts, you can add up the idea that there’s someone out there that’s so bad, that’s so dangerous, that she had to go undercover and leave her daughter behind, at least for a period of time."
But did "Ziva" come back to die? This could also be supported by the fact that Coté de Pablo's comeback is scheduled for only four episodes. Two of them will be broadcast in the USA in late autumn.
NCIS: A looming threat for "Ziva" and "Gibbs"
The hitherto unknown threat on NCIS is so dangerous that "Ziva David" - a former Mossad agent trained in close combat and a great shot - is afraid to challenge this person. "Ziva", who at first had faked her death, now comes out of hiding and could possibly sacrifice her own safety and that of her family - just to save "Gibbs".
"Ziva" and "Gibbs" have become the targets of this still unknown person. Many NCIS fans consider it unlikely that both will survive their strong opponent. According to their theories, there are only be two possibilities - either "Ziva" or "Gibbs" will die. But who will be the one to go?
Will "Ziva" die a heroic death to save "Gibbs"? The showrunners already let her die once, so why not again? Or does "Gibbs" die to hand over the reins to the next generation? After all, there has been speculation for some time about a possible exit of the show's bedrock.
The audience will only have to wait a few more days for these questions to be answered. The 17th season of NCIS starts on September 24.
Coté de Pablo's return to NCIS
It's official that Coté de Pablo is coming back as "Ziva David" in season 17, but the creators had to persuade her to make a comeback at first. As showrunner Frank Cadera told Parade, the NCIS producers met with Coté de Pablo and presented an outline of her character's story arc that really thrilled the 39-year-old.
"We explained the outline of her episodes to her," says Cadera . "She came and had a meeting with Steve, me, the lyricist and Mark Harmon, and she loved it - and here she is."
