- It's out on November 30
The child in us all can't wait! In 1988, Disney released one of its most successful fantasy adventure films, and the iconic movie Willow was born.
The film, which follows actor Warwick Davis as "Willow", details the story of a child that holds a magic power to end the evil "Queen Bavmorda's" powerful reign. In an effort to save her power, the Queen order's every child born with a specific mark to be killed, but one managed to escape and "Willow" goes on an epic adventure to save the Kingdom and protect the little girl from the clutches of evil.
Willow sequel is highly anticipated
At the beginning of the trailer for the series that will share the same name as its predecessor, a woman's voice can be heard as flashes of different fantastical scenery flashes on the screen. She says, "There is a story of a child destined to be an empress, and the unlikely hero who would protect her," referring to the original film.
The 1988 film was created by none other than George Lucas and was directed by Ron Howard. In its original release, the film was a massive success at the box office, grossing $137 million, despite critics scoring it low. Since then, it's become a staple in vintage fantasy films.
Also Interesting:
The series is set to take place 15 years after the child returns to her kingdom, and it will still feature Warwick Davis in the series. While some of the original cast will return, Val Kilmer is not appearing in the trailer, so no word on whether or not he will be back to reprise his role as "Madmardigan".
But there will be new faces! One most notable goes to Talisa Garcia. Garcia is making history as the first transgender woman to appear in a Disney series or film, and she is also the first transgender woman to snag a cis-gendered role!
We can't wait for the show! Will you be watching?
