It seems like Amazon's Lord of the Rings series has found its main villain. Joseph Mawle, also known as "Benjen Stark" in HBO's Game of Thrones, has been cast in the new series based on J.R.R. Tolkien's legendary fantasy novels. This time he is joining stars Will Poulter, also known for his role in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, and Markella Kavenagh, best known for appearing in Romper Stomper.
This is what we know so far about The Lord of the Rings upcoming series
Set in Middle-Earth's Second Age, before the events of Tolkien's primary trilogy The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, the first two episodes of the series will be directed by J.A. Bayona, also known for his work in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, New Line Cinema, and Harpercollins, The Lord of the Rings' pre-production has already started, while production will reportedly begin in the coming months in New Zealand. Writers Justin Doble (Stranger Things,) Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad,) and Jason Cahill (The Sopranos,) are on board as executive producers.
