Jon Cryer is not igniting a feud with Charlie Sheen.

The actor has now clarified comments he made about Sheen's role on Two and a Half Men, which came amid a Twitter feud with U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz. On Sept. 5, Cryer downplayed the suggestion that Sheen alone "carried" the sitcom, emphasizing its continued run and his Emmy win after Sheen's exit. But one day later, Cryer added that his self-defense was not "meant as a slam" on Sheen.

Two and a Half Men: Jon Cryer not feuding with Charlie Sheen

Responding to his original tweet, Cryer on Sept. 6 wrote: "FWIW, this wasn't meant as a slam on Charlie. He was undeniably the star of the show. And a fantastic actor."

He continued, adding a more personal note. "Despite his issues, we had many more highs than lows. But you can't say he 'carried' a show that lasted four years without him," Cryer concluded, doubling down on his initial comments.

Cryer's defense came after he'd criticized Gaetz, who responded with the insult "Charlie Sheen totally carried" Two and a Half Men. "Is that why, after he left, it lasted for 4 more years and I won an Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy?" Cryer had written in response, before clarifying his feelings on Sheen the day after.

'Two And A Half Men': This Is What Charlie Sheen Looks Like In 2022

Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen

Cryer and Sheen portrayed on-screen brothers "Alan" and "Charlie Harper" for eight seasons of Two and a Half Men. In recent years, Cryer has commented on his off-screen relationship with Sheen, which he described as "a great first few years on that show."

Sheen's substance abuse problems and erratic behaviour eventually cost him his job, and, Cryer recalled, "It was very, very strange and [there were] aspects of it I absolutely hated, but you know, I'm thankful for the years that were great." The former co-stars appear to remain disconnected, too, with Cryer in 2019 saying: "It's kind of a roller coaster when you have Charlie in your life and I just haven't decided to get back on that roller coaster."
