It is interesting that the characters in the old and new series have the same names and the same origin stories. The actors, however, have all been replaced. Daniel Dae Kim was the first actor to be cast in the reboot. The actor, who was born in South Korea, took over the character of "Chin Ho Kelly". In the original, "Chin" was played by the Hawaiian Kam Fong Chun. The actor and former police officer died of lung cancer in his native Honolulu in 2002 at the age of 84.
