Alex O'Loughlin is an Australian actor (with Scottish roots) who became famous because of his leading roles in the shows Moonlight and Hawaii Five-0. For his performance as "Will Bryant" in the Australian mini-series The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant he was even nominated for a number of film awards.

Hawaii Five-0: "Steve" went through a lot

On Hawaii Five-0, "Steve McGarrett" starred as the Lieutenant Commander since the very first season in 2010. The leader of the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force is a former Navy SEAL, now in the United States Navy Reserves.

After his mother's supposed death, "Steve" was sent to the United States Naval Academy in California for his junior and senior years and had a distinguished career there. He graduated "BUD/S Class 203" at the top of his class.

From his time in the service, "McGarrett" was actually friends with another former Navy SEAL: Senior Chief Petty Officer "Sam Hanna" (LL Cool J), who we all know from NCIS: Los Angeles.

However, most of what happened to him during his time in the military is unknown, as many of his missions are classified as top secret. We DO know that "Steve" was sent to Afghanistan, Iraq, and North Korea.

Hawaii Five-0: "Steve" lost touch with his family

"Steve", played by Alex O'Loughlin, also served aboard a ship called the USS Enterprise. However, his successful career also led to him losing touch with his family for a while.

When "Steve" returned to Hawaii, he moved back into his parents' house. However, both his parents passed away (although his mother "Doris McGarrett", played by Christine Lahti, returned) and the relationship with his sister "Mary McGarrett" (Taryn Manning) remained tense. He rarely or never saw her.

The series wrapped up in 2020 after 10 successful seasons. We have yet to see Alex starring in anything else so far - but we look forward to his next on-screen role!
