Sarah Drew (44), known for her role as "April Kepner" in 'Grey's Anatomy', recently spoke to her former co-stars Camilla Luddington (40) and Jessica Capshaw (48) on the podcast 'Call It With Sarah Drew' about her departure from the popular series.
Sarah Drew: Harsh words about 'Grey's Anatomy' exit
Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw were both axed after nine seasons. Sarah described it as being "unceremoniously let go in a way that felt mean and unjust, and because of that, the outpouring of love was so enormous it was like you were sitting there watching people [eulogize you]," said the actress.
Although Sarah Drew has since returned to the series for guest appearances, the role no longer feels the same for her. "I have no attachment to [the show] at all," she explained.
However, this distance has also given her a new freedom: "They’re not responsible for my livelihood anymore. They’re not responsible for my success or my joy… I’m like, ‘Hey! This is a fun spot to come visit.'"
Jessica Capshaw recalled how Sarah Drew was cast for the series. She was originally supposed to play a different role, but had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts. In the end, she was given the role of "April Kepner", who became one of the most popular characters in the series.
