Gossip Girl fans don't have much longer to wait until their favourite show makes a return! On Friday, HBO Max shared the first official look at the reboot of the hit teen drama series, also announcing when it will debut on the streaming platform!
Gossip Girl star Kristen Bell returns to voice title character
Gossip Girl's new trailer features a voiceover that is sure to be familiar to fans of the show! Kristen Bell is back as "Gossip Girl," serving as the voice of the anonymous blogger once again. Bell is the only original cast member confirmed to be involved in the reboot. However, in 2019, Chace Crawford— who played "Nate Archibald"— said that he would be open to making a cameo appearance!
Back in March, it was announced that Bell would return to Gossip Girl along with creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, as well as showrunner Jonathan Safran. The lineup of new cast members starring in the reboot has also been revealed! Whitney Peak, Emily Alyn Lind, Eli Brown, Jason Gotay, and Johnathan Fernandez are joining the new ensemble of privileged Manhattan teens the show revolves around.
Gossip Girl reboot series: here's what we know so far
Gossip Girl originally premiered in September 2007. Adapted from Cecily von Ziegesar's series of young adult novels, the show focused on a group of teenagers living in Manhattan's Upper East Side who find their lives disrupted by an anonymous gossip blogger. It was quite popular, running for six seasons on the CW.
As Entertainment Tonight reports, the Gossip Girl reboot will pick up 9 years after the original show ended, placing it in 2021. With 10 episodes in the first season, it intends to provide a look at the shifting landscape of both social media and New York City itself. And thanks to the brand-new trailer, we know that the series will premiere on HBO Max very soon, making its debut on July 8!
