Glee fans will be excited to learn that the cast of the musical dramedy is reuniting for a special tribute! As Deadline reports on Wednesday, it was announced that many of the members of the show's ensemble cast will be coming together to honour the late Naya Rivera, and her character "Santana Lopez".

Glee tribute will commemorate "Santana's" coming out

Glee aired from 2009 to 2015, and was known for covering popular songs and addressing topical issues. Set in Lima, Ohio, the show followed an ensemble cast of characters in the McKinley High School glee club, New Directions. Rivera's "Santana" was a fan favourite, becoming especially beloved by the LGBTQ+ community after she came out as a lesbian.

Deadline shares that the tribute will happen during the GLAAD Media Awards, which recognizes notable LGBTQ+ representation in the media. This year, the awards ceremony commemorates 10 years since "Santana's" coming out— a moment that's widely considered to be significant when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation on television.

Glee original cast members and Demi Lovato to appear

Glee also featured several other LGBTQ+ characters, and while the show was airing, it won a GLAAD Media Award twice for Outstanding Comedy Series. The special tribute will be introduced by Demi Lovato— a fitting choice since the singer guest starred on Glee as "Dani," one of "Santana's" love interests.

The original Glee cast members appearing are Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, and Jenna Ushkowitz. Several cast members who joined the show later on—Darren Criss, Becca Tobin, Alex Newell, Vanessa Lengies, and Jacob Artist— will also be part of the tribute.

Rivera tragically died in 2020, as the star drowned after a boating accident. The GLAAD Media Awards this year will be hosted by Niecy Nash and take place on April 8, streaming via YouTube at 8 PM ET. A couple hours later, the show will become available to watch on Hulu from then until June is over. The tribute to "Santana" is sure to be an emotional one, so Glee fans won't want to miss this special moment!
