- Gladiator 2 is coming
- A new trailer was released
- THIS is Paul Mescal in action
After a long, 24-year wait, the cinematic gods have finally blessed us with the first glimpse of 'Gladiator 2,' and it's everything fans could have hoped for and more! Paramount Pictures dropped the trailer on Tuesday, setting the stage for an epic showdown this November.
Get ready for a rollercoaster ride back to Ancient Rome, where action, drama, and breathtaking battles await!
A Blast from the Past with a Modern Twist!
The trailer kicks off with a bang as Paul Mescal echoes the legendary first film, with Denzel Washington masterfully pulling the strings in the background. But wait, there's more!
Pedro Pascal shines as "Marcus Acacius," and the Colosseum has never looked more glorious. Brace yourselves for large-scale battles, arena fights, and yes, a gladiator riding a rhino! The climax teases an intense face-off between "Lucius" and "Marcus Acacius," with Rome itself on the brink of an uprising.
Ridley Scott recently told 'Vanity Fair' that he became a fan of Mescal’s after watching the actor’s breakthrough performance in 'Normal People.'
The two men only spoke for about a half hour when Scott decided that Mescal was his 'Gladiator 2' lead. The actor bulked up so much for the film that co-star Pascal told the publication it was quite challenging having to face off against him in the arena. Pascal even gave Mescal a nickname on set: "Brick Wall Paul."
"He got so strong. I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again," Pascal added. "To go up against somebody that fit and that talented and that much younger…It’s brutal, man."
'Gladiator 2' is not holding back, boasting a stellar new cast including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, and Joseph Quinn, with Connie Nielsen reprising her role as "Lucilla."
However, fans of the original might feel a pang of nostalgia as Russell Crowe's "Maximus" will not be making a return. Crowe himself has stated, "the sequel has nothing to do with me."
Set years after the first film, we find "Lucius," once the heir to the Roman Empire, forced into the gritty life of a gladiator as he battles against the tyranny of "Caracalla" and "Geta." It's a tale of resilience, power, and the fight for freedom that promises to captivate audiences once again.
