'Mad Max'

George Miller began his filmmaking career in 1979 with what's often named as one of the best directorial debuts and action films of all time: Mad Max. He also wrote the innovative action film starring Mel Gibson, which received two sequels in the '80s and another entry in the franchise in the 2010s.

'Babe: Pig in the City'

The same man who brought Mad Max to the big screen also had a creative hand in Babe and it's sequel Babe: Pig in the City. He wrote and produced the charming 1995 talking-pig film and returned to direct-write-produce the sequel in 1998.

'Twilight Zone: The Movie'

Twilight Zone: The Movie is another classic with George Miller's involvement. The 1983 anthology film version of the TV series featured several memorable stories, and Miller directed the "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" segment, with John Lithgow as the paranoid air traveller who believes he's spotted a gremlin on the side of the airplane.

'Mad Max 2'

In the original Mad Max trilogy, the first film is usually named as the best of the three. But you shouldn't sleep on 1980s sequels Mad Mad 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome either. Beyond Thunderdome even co-stars singer Tina Turner alongside Mel Gibson.

'Lorenzo's Oil'

Interestingly, 1992 film Lorenzo's Oil stands as director George Miller's lone straight drama film, as he usually works in the action and children's genres. The film starred Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon, the latter of whom received an Oscar nod for her role as the mother of "Lorenzo," a boy diagnosed with ALD.

'Mad Max: Fury Road'

Few viewers who saw Max Max: Fury Road in 2015 would deny that George Miller outdid himself. The fourth entry in his Mad Max universe received widespread acclaim and earned a place on many lists as one of the top films of the 2010s. It's also a challenger moving forward as one of the best action films of all time.
