- A new Futurama season is coming to Hulu
- One big cast member might not return
- Futurama has been off the air since 2013
Good news for Futurama fans: the series is making a surprise comeback. Today, streamer Hulu announced that it ordered new episodes, and here are the details.
Futurama: Surprise new season on Hulu
After 10 years off the air, Futurama returns with 20 new episodes in 2023 on Hulu. The main voice cast is on board — with one exception: "Bender" actor John DiMaggio.
DiMaggio has been playing hardball in contract negotiations, according to Deadline, and he didn't agree to a deal before the big announcement.
So the new Futurama could recast "Bender" or still reunite with DiMaggio before production, reports say.
But the actors behind "Fry" (Billy West), "Leela" (Katey Sagal) and the gang are otherwise returning. Let's hope they find a way to make it work with "Bender."
Also interesting:
It'll be another chapter in the Matt Groening and David X. Cohen series, which aired seven seasons between 1999 and 2013.
Those seasons worked around several cancellations, so hopefully the show can jump back into new episodes smoothly again.
