• 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' is coming to an end
  • The show has been an iconic HBO feature for 11 seasons
  • THIS is how creator Larry David wants to end it

That's right, the master of awkwardness, Larry David, comedian and writer, is hanging up his curmudgeon hat as HBO announces the series' last laugh in Season 12, premiering February 4th. The show's iconic run has become a bit of gold standard in modern comedy writing, stemming from the 'Seinfeld' school of thought.

The show has been comedy genius

After 24 years of side-splitting shenanigans, HBO is finally stamping the term "final season" on 'Curb,' and Larry David is ready to ditch his "malignant character" for a more saintly persona.

The 'Seinfeld' co-creator has played a curmudgeonly version of himself in 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' since 2000, making it HBO’s longest-running comedy. Much like 'Seinfeld', the show draws on the humour in everyday life but the dialogue is mostly improvised around an outline written by David, who plays a semi-retired television writer.

But now, Larry has announced that his award-winning comedy is ending with the next season.

In his own words, David is set to embrace his true self, "the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being" he claims to have been before his on-screen alter ego took over. Want to reach out to the newly reformed Larry? He cheekily suggests contacting him at Doctors Without Borders!

The show, known for its sporadic appearances, has kept fans on their toes with an every-other-year rhythm and a few lengthy hiatuses. But this time, the end is nigh, and HBO CEO Casey Bloys couldn't be prouder of the groundbreaking series that has redefined comedy television.

"It’s hard to say farewell to such a ground-breaking, brilliantly funny and iconic series like 'Curb', which has left its mark across television and the comedy genre," Bloys said in a statement. The show’s final season will contain 10 episodes, with the series finale airing on April 7.

This is how Larry himself described his end in his own words as per HBO's official statement:

"As CURB comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character," David said in an appropriately cheeky statement.

"And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders."

As for the final season, details are hush-hush, but we're promised the return of Tracey Ullman as the unforgettable "Irma Kostroski", alongside a stellar cast including Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, and Cheryl Hines. And let's not forget the potential parade of A-listers – will we see a 'Seinfeld' reunion? Only time will tell!

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' has been a cultural touchstone, coining phrases like "pants tent" and "accidental text on purpose" while showcasing Larry's outlandish escapades from Broadway to spite stores. Remember the time Larry's carpool lane hack with a prostitute inadvertently freed an innocent man? Comedy gold!

As we prepare to say goodbye to this iconic show, let's savor every last cringe-worthy moment of Larry David's final act. It's been prettay, prettay, prettay good, but all good things must come to an end.
