'Fast & Furious 9' Conquers The Box Office In China

After delaying its release due to COVID-19, Fast & Furious 9 is now on track to become one of the first blockbusters of the year. The movie has debuted in some locations and is getting terrific results in countries including China and Russia.

Fast & Furious 9 was forced to delay its premiere due to the pandemic, but it's now arrived with a bang in Asia.

F9 has even outperformed projections by scoring the best premiere in the last 17 months — and it's debuted in only eight countries so far. According to BoxOfficeMojo, the film has already made $163 million.

F9 is on track to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year ahead of its North American and European premieres in June, a welcome sight for the industry after the onslaught of COVID-19.

BoxOfficeMojo says the Vin Diesel movie accumulated just over $163 million in its first three days showing in eight countries, including China, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Russia.

With this, F9 exceeded the marks reached by other notable 2021 releases such as Tom and Jerry, Raya and the Last Dragon, Mortal Kombat, and the rerelease of Avatar.

So far, in their entire runs, only four 2021 films have outdone the early results of F9. The only Hollywood production was Godzilla vs. Kong, which made $432 million.

But projections expect F9 to surpass the box office totals of Godzilla vs. Kong even before it premieres in the US, the UK, Germany, Japan, Mexico, France, and Brazil in June.
