With the recent $920 million success of Frozen II, starring Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, Disney has officially become the first major studio to gross $10 billion at the global box office in a single year. They previously broke their own 2016 record of $7.6 billion in July of 2019 when The Lion King grossed $1.66 billion.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will also be a huge hit
Other notable films that contributed to Disney’s $10 billion success are: Avengers: Endgame ($2.798 billion), Captain Marvel ($1.13 billion), Toy Story 4 ($1.07 billion) and Aladdin ($1.05 billion). In total, Disney has grossed over $3 billion domestically and over $6.7 billion internationally.
With the addition of FOX titles, which Disney acquired in March 2019, Disney’s combined global box office is nearly $12 billion. These numbers are only expected to rise as Disney has not yet released Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is expected to be a hit domestically and overseas.
