10 Facts About The Iconic Movie 'Dirty Dancing'

Throughout the film, the clothes worn by Patrick Swayze alias "Johnny" and Jennifer Grey alias "Baby" mostly contrast each other. Whilst "Baby" almost always wears bright colors, "Johnny" is always seen in dark or black clothes.

While filming one of their love scenes, Jennifer Grey was stung by a wasp. Although Patrick Swayze tried to cover up the sting with his arm in the final cut, you can still see a red spot when he gets up out of bed...

Patrick Swayze thought that his character's famous line "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" actually sounded pretty corny to him and he didn't like saying it while they were filming. But when he saw the final cut of the film, he admitted that the line worked perfectly!

A problem arose while shooting the scenes with "Baby" and "Johnny" at the lake, where large trees can be seen in the background. As the film takes place during the summer but was shot partly in the fall, some of the foliage had already started taking on some yellow and brown— so the producers decided to use spray paint and colored the leaves green again!

The famous scene in which "Baby" and "Johnny" are fooling around on the ground was actually not in the script. The two actors were just warming up for the next scene, but the director was so excited by the chemistry between the two that he started filming and the shots ended up in the final cut!

Cynthia Rhodes (right), who plays the role of the dance instructor "Penny," was actually the first actress to be cast in Dirty Dancing. No surprise there, since she had already proven herself in the dance classics Staying Alive and Flashdance!

The scene in which "Johnny" and "Baby" are practicing for their big performance and Jennifer Grey keeps laughing because Patrick Swayze slides his hand down her arm was not in the script either! Grey was really ticklish, so they had to shoot the scene over and over. Swayze's annoyed facial expression was therefore also quite real...

The studio held so-called test screenings for Dirty Dancing before its release, and the reactions were almost entirely negative. After the screenings, the producers thought about releasing the film straight to VHS instead of the cinema. Producer Aaron Russo supposedly even suggested to "burn the film and take the insurance money!"...

Dirty Dancing takes place in the summer of 1963. Nonetheless, in this scene, Jennifer Grey wears sneakers which were made by the brand Keds, which were only produced during the eighties, not in the sixties!
