In Fatal Attraction, family man "Dan Gallagher" (Michael Douglas) has an affair with his colleague "Alex" (Glenn Close.) When it is clear he has not the same feelings as her, she threatens him and his family. At the end of the film, she attacks both "Dan" and his wife "Beth" (Anne Archer) with a knife. He attempts to overpower her, but is not quite successful. In the end, "Beth" shoots "Alex" but originally she was not meant to be shot, but to commit suicide

The film Thelma and Louise (1991) tells the story of two best friends (Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis,) who go on a completely out-of-control road trip. They end up being involved in several crimes and having to flee the police. At the end of the film, the two women with drive off a cliff in the Grand Canyon as they are surrounded by police. The final scene shows their car falling into the abyss, but it is unclear whether they survive the fall or not. The original ending leaves no room for doubt, however, their car is shown hideously crumpled at the bottom of the cliff...

In the film Rocky, the amateur boxer "Rocky," played by Sylvester Stallone, steps into the ring to fight the reigning champion "Apollo Creed" (Carl Weathers.) He cuts a fine figure during the fight, but is not quite able to win. The spectators however, treat him as a winner, cheering loudly. He's also a winner in love and is finally able to win "Adrian's" (Talia Shire) heart, his friend's sister with whom he has been in love for some time. The film was actually meant to end differently originally. "Rocky" instead of fighting was meant to accept the money offered him and use it to help "Adrian" open a pet shop!

In Star Wars VI - Return of the Jedi, "Han Solo" (Harrison Ford) and "Luke Skywalker" (Mark Hamill) try to defeat the Empire. In the end, they kill the Emperor and destroy the Death Star. Originally, however, "Han Solo" was meant to die at the end of the film. A happy ending was decided instead!

In Seven, starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, a serial killer named "John Doe" who is obsessed with the seven deadly sins, is on the loose. Policemen hunt him down and are finally able to arrest him. In one of the very last scenes, one of them receives a package containing the head of his dead wife sent to him by the serial killer - he then shoots the killer. Initially, a less dramatic end was planned: The policeman was meant to receive his dog's head and not his wife's, however, Brad Pitt considered that it was not powerful enough so the director changed it!
