Derek Hough has revealed that he'll be capping off season 29 of Dancing With the Stars by returning to the ballroom floor once again— and this time, he'll be on his own! As Entertainment Tonight shares, Hough opened up about what fans can expect from his upcoming dance, and what made him decide to do it.

Hough says preparing for solo dance "has challenged me"

Hough admitted that his decision to do a solo routine is something that's put him out of his comfort zone! "It's a solo performance. I am dancing by myself and I am not sure why I decided to, but I am doing it," he said. "I have not danced a solo since I was, like, 12 years old, that is the truth. So here we go!"

As for why he decided to go that route, Hough says the pandemic played a role. "To be honest with you, it was kind of a COVID thing," he continued. "Usually I would be like, 'I want to do a group number,' something like that, but it just logistically made sense to do a solo. It has challenged me, for sure, but I am looking forward to it. It's gonna be fun and I will say this: it's an homage to some of my heroes."

Hough's DWTS return has been full of surprises for fans

Hough returned to DWTS this season, joining the show as a judge for the first time. He also treated fans to an impressive routine earlier on, so his announcement of a second performance came as a welcome surprise! Last month, the six-time mirrorball trophy winner took to the ballroom floor with his girlfriend Hayley Erbert, performing a passionate Paso Doble.

And as Entertainment Tonight mentions, Hough's performance won't be the only special one of the night! That's because rapper Nelly— who's one of the season 29 DWTS finalists alongside his partner, Daniella Karagach— is set to perform a medley of hits! We can't wait to see what both performers have in store, and find out who will win the coveted mirrorball trophy this season!
