- Daisy Ridley became known in the 'Star Wars' universe
- She recently spoke about the upcoming film
- Daisy is optimistic about it
In an exclusive chat with 'Collider', Ridley revealed that her comeback as the fierce and beloved Rey wasn't on her radar, but she's now "very excited" to jump back into the action. The untitled 'Star Wars' flick, helmed by the visionary Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, promises to pick up 15 years after 'The Rise of Skywalker.'
"Rey" will be back again!
Ridley's "Rey" will be on a mission to resurrect the Jedi Order, and according to our star, the story is "really cool." She's on the edge of her seat just waiting to dive into the script, and frankly, so are we! Despite the film's big reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Ridley confessed to being a bundle of nerves before her surprise appearance. "I was s***ting myself," she admitted to 'The Hollywood Reporter.'
The actress explained that, while she was promoting her film 'Sometimes I Think About Dying' at the Sundance Film Festival in February, she had not yet been approached by LucasFilm and Disney about a return to 'Star Wars'.
"I was asked something when I was there and strangely, people were asking me stuff and I was like, ’No, I’m not doing another one.’ Then it all happened after I came back. It was such a nice reception," she said.
Big expectations
"I know the storyline for one film. That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited."
Only a select few, including Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, knew about Ridley's secret mission to the event. Talk about a stealthy move! Kennedy might have claimed that Obaid-Chinoy's project, along with other 'Star Wars' ventures, was cruising smoothly in development, but Ridley's revelations suggest there's more to the story.
"I’m very excited," she added about the Rey movie, which is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. "The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited."
Also interesting:
So far, all that we know about the new movie (other than the identity of its director) is that it will be set 15 years after 'The Rise of Skywalker' and follow "Rey" as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. We aren’t even sure if this will be Episode X or if it will be separate from the saga.
Either way, Daisy Ridley’s claim that it will surprise fans is notable.
We can't wait to see Ridley wield her lightsaber again and bring "Rey's" journey to new heights. Will she succeed in restoring the Jedi Order? Will the new storylines live up to the hype? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: the Star Wars saga continues to keep us on the edge of our seats!
