Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day quarantine period for the country of India on Tuesday, March 24. The move comes as the world's second most populous nation - of 1.3 billion - attempts to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Public spaces, including movie theatres, have been shut down. The release of the Disney+ streaming service was also postponed in India. It was scheduled for a March 29 launch date.
Coronavirus: Bollywood has shutdown and postponed new releases
With the closure of Indian cinemas, all of the upcoming Bollywood productions are now postponed for later release dates. The release of major Hollywood films also factors into India's exhibition industry, and nearly all upcoming American films had already been postponed as well.

The industry expects to take a financial hit as a result of this pause. But, according to The Hollywood Reporter, industry executives recognize why severe measures are necessary at this time. They will return and attempt to recover once it's safe to do so.

COVID-19 cancels Disney+ launch and Indian Premier League tournament
With theatres closed and people quarantined at home, video-on-demand and streaming services have seen a spike in usage in India. However, the Indian launch of Disney+ was delayed in part due to the postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament. Disney+ was to stream the massively popular event. Now, both events, and many others that were planned in India, will have to wait.
Reports suggest that India's coronavirus situation isn't yet as severe as other nations, so officials hope that the total lockdown will pre-emptively suppress the disease.
