Billy Porter's new take on the classic role
Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award winner Billy Porter is putting a new 21st century twist on the classic role of the "Fairy Godmother".
The Cinderella reboot is aimed to be released in 2021, and Porter is making sure the role will be "genderless", saying, "the children are ready for it."
During his CBS interview, Porter said that it hit him while he was on set how "profound" it was that he was portraying this iconic role.

"It hit me when I was on the set last week, how profound it is that I am playing the Fairy Godmother — they call it the Fab G. Magic has no gender," he said.
He also added that portraying the role as genderless is "powerful", and is "a classic fairytale for a new generation".

“This is a classic, this is a classic fairytale for a new generation,” he said. “I think that the new generation is really ready. The kids are ready. It’s the grownups that are slowing stuff down.”
Billy Porter is often a voice in regards to LGBTQ rights, and continues to be an advocate for gender fluidity, showing this on his red carpet debuts.
The movie is set to be released February 5, 2021.
