"Det. Brian Cassidy" was partnered with "Det. John Munch" (Richard Belzer) when Law & Order: SVU launched its first season in 1999. But his initial run on the show ended that same season, as actor Dean Winters had committed to work with HBO's prison drama Oz.
"Cassidy" later returned to SVU in season 13, and has served in a recurring role in multiple seasons since then. We last saw him in the season 19 episode "Facing Demons" in 2019, when he confronted his past as a rape survivor. But aside from SVU, what has Dean Winters been up to in recent years? Let's take a look.
Law & Order: SVU - "Cassidy" is played by actor Dean Winters
Though "Cassidy" is one of his most recognizable roles, Dean Winters has kept busy in recent years with TV and film work. Along with his long-term SVU role, Winters has appeared for years on FX's Rescue Me as "Johnny Gavin," 30 Rock as "Dennis Duffy," and Brooklyn Nine-Nine as "Keith 'The Vulture' Pembroke."
Recent TV guest spots and recurring roles for the actor include Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Wayne, and American Gods. In 2020, Winters also appeared in the Netflix mystery-drama film Lost Girls (which is still streaming today!).
Dean Winters: New movies and TV roles?
Per IMDb, Winters also has two titles in pre-production, Street Justice and Rites & Wrongs, and another in post-production, Palmer. So fans of the actor do have new content to look forward to in the coming years!
Today, the 56-year-old actor is only sparsely active on social media. One of his more recent tweets, however, was a 2018 reunion photo with Mariska Hargitay, when he announced a new episode for "Cassidy" on SVU.
Some of the actor's other best-known roles over the years include "Avi" in John Wick and, for Law & Order-universe fans, as "Mike Stoat" on Criminal Intent. But whether it's on SVU once more, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or another future Netflix project, we look forward to seeing more Dean Winters roles!
