According to ET and Ben Affleck's Twitter, the new Batman standalone titled The Batman, will be directed by Matt Reeves. Ben Affleck is not going to be directing, producing or starring in the film as Matt Reeves has the vision of telling the story of a younger Batman.
The Batman to be a defining story
Reeves revealed at a Television Critics Association Conference that "The Batman won't be an origin story in the vein of Frank Miller's Year One series, but rather a "defining" story about the character," according to ET. Reeves went on to say that "we are trying to tell a story that's emotional and yet is really about him being the world's greatest detective and all the things that, for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman."
Before today, Ben Affleck hadn't mentioned anything regarding the new Batman film since July 2017 when he revealed that he was stepping down as director. Despite that news, he reassured fans that just because he is stepping down as director, didn't mean he wouldn't be starring in the film. That all changed today. Stay tuned...
