Amy Adams is returning to the small screen with her next project, as it was announced that she's starring in the new Netflix series Kings of America! As Entertainment Tonight shares, the news came on Tuesday during the streaming service's Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Adams to executive produce her new Netflix drama
Adams will not only be starring in Kings of America— she'll also act as executive producer for the project! Entertainment Tonight mentions that the actress's production company, Bond Group Entertainment, will be producing the show along with Stacy O'Neil.
Kings of America will also see Adams reteaming with director Adam McKay, who is set to direct the first episode. The duo previously teamed up for the 2018 movie Vice, as well as 2006's Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. McKay will also executive produce Kings of America through Hyperobject Industries, alongside Betsy Koch.
Adams' show Kings of America: here's what we know
Adams' new Netflix show certainly has an interesting premise! According to Entertainment Tonight, Kings of America "focuses on a Walmart heiress, a maverick executive, and a longtime Walmart saleswoman and preacher who dared to fight the retail giant in the biggest class-action lawsuit in US history."
The limited series will tell the story of how the lives of all three of these women became intertwined through Walmart. Playwright Diana Son is the showrunner for Kings of America, as well as executive producer alongside creator and writer Jess Leslie. Film producer Brunson Green will also be executive producing.
Adams generally tends to favour movie roles over television roles, so the announcement of her new project is especially exciting! Her last small-screen appearance came as "Camille Preaker" in HBO's Sharp Objects, a psychological thriller based on Gillian Flynn's novel of the same name. Netflix hasn't revealed which role Adams will be playing in Kings of America yet, but fans of the actress will undoubtedly tune in to check the show out!
