• Broccoli and Wilson withdraw
  • Amazon MGM takes creative control
  • This is the new era of 'James Bond'

Long-time 'James Bond' producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have announced their retirement. This decision marks the end of an era in which the two played a key role in shaping the "Bond" franchise. Amazon MGM Studios will now take over creative control of 'James Bond', as reported by 'Variety'.

Amazon MGM Studios takes over

"Since his theatrical introduction over 60 years ago, James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment," Mike Hopkins, Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, explained after the takeover.

Hopkins expressed his gratitude to the previous producers and emphasized the importance of the legacy of Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman. "We are honoured to continue this treasured heritage, and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world," Hopkins continues.

Broccoli and Wilson step back

Barbara Broccoli, who began her career in the 'Bond' universe at the age of 17, is leaving the top of the franchise together with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson. Both have been responsible for "007" since 1996 and have played a key role in shaping the film series. "My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli," Barbara Broccoli commented on her retirement.

Despite the departure, Broccoli and Wilson will not remain completely separate from 'Bond' as they have formed a new joint venture with Amazon MGM. All three parties are owners while Amazon MGM Studios has retained creative control.
