John Krasinski will continue to spread good news and positivity across the world with Some Good News! That's because as The Hollywood Reporter announced on Thursday, ViacomCBS has acquired the rights to Krasinski's feel-good series after a bidding war with several other television networks. Their CBS All Access streaming platform will have first rights for the new episodes of SGN.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Krasinski was at first reluctant to sell Some Good News, having planned on continuing the show for free online. After the first episode of his show went viral, many broadcast networks and streaming services expressed their interest in it. Then, as the weekly episodes of SGN continued to become internet sensations, more and more corporate sponsors ended up providing giveaways.

Krasinski thrilled with Some Good News being acquired by CBS

Krasinski made a statement to People on Thursday about his show moving to ViacomCBS, expressing his enthusiasm towards the decision. "Could not be more excited and proud to be partnering with CBS/Viacom to be able to bring Some Good News to so many more people!" he said. 

"From the first episode, our goal was to create a news show dedicated entirely to good news. Never did I expect to be joining the ranks of such a historic news organization as CBS." While Krasinski will not be hosting the new series of Some Good News, he is still set to be involved as its executive producer as well as "have some sort of on-air presence," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Some Good News to be produced in-house by Comedy Central 

Krasinski both self-produced and self-financed Some Good News, which he created in an attempt to bring some positivity to the world during the coronavirus pandemic.  As The Hollywood Reporter shares, the series' continuation will be produced by Comedy Central, who will also have partial ownership of SGN.

"Comedy Central Productions is excited to partner with John and bring his beloved Some Good News to audiences around the world through ViacomCBS’ family of brands," Chris McCarthy, Entertainment & Youth Group president, said in a statement.

Over the course of its 8-week YouTube run, SGN ended up having 2.56 YouTube subscribers in just two months, with episodes racking up millions of views. The show featured a Hamilton cast reunion and a wedding crashed by the cast of The Office, as well as a virtual prom with performers such as the Jonas Brothers and Billie Eilish, and weather reports from celebrities like Brad Pitt and Emma Stone.
