Downton Abbey is getting another full feature film! The sequel to the first full feature is going to be released to theatres in March of 2022 and will follow up where the family left off.
The last film was released in 2019 and offered up some juicy drama, something that Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey, is no stranger to writing!
Downton Abbey goes to France
The second installment of Downton Abbey's movie franchise won't take place in the English countryside, but rather the wealthy family takes off to the beautiful villas of Southern France!
The family explores the country on a lavish vacation, and the film promises the same cast despite a change in location.
The film will also see the return of Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, and more, as well as some new faces.
Fellowes told People earlier this month what he's anticipated for film, and says that it might feel a little different than the show, which ran solidly from 2010 to 2015.
"The further the '20s went along, the more the world was changing in so many ways," he told the publication. "Everything from entertainment to transport was really different by the end of the '20s. That's what we're referring to in that."
Additionally, Fellowes also adds that the film is meant to make the audience walk away feeling good, but didn't elaborate on what that might mean.
He said, "I like the idea that people go into the movie and have a great two hours and then go out to have dinner. That seems to me to be a good thing."
He continued, "If we are useful for cheering people up and giving them an easy time of it, that doesn't bother me."
Downton Abbey: A New Era will be in theatres on March 18 of 2022.
