The British Royal Family's Eye Colors

Queen Elizabeth II, who was the head of the family and the royal ancestor of all current British royals, has a long lineage of blue-eyed individuals that predates her for several centuries. In fact, there are studies that suggest evidence of blue eyes in King Richard III, who reigned in the 15th century.

Prince Philip also had blue eyes. When two blue-eyed parents have children, it is likely that the gene for blue eyes will be passed on to their offspring, as was the case with this couple, as Philip also came from previous generations with blue eyes.

Following this logical order, the current King of England and his siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, have blue eyes with slight variations from one another. Of course, the exact shade of blue may depend on the angle of the camera, the width of their pupils, and the lighting in the area, but it is certain that they all have blue eyes.

Princess Diana had deep blue eyes that were much less pigmented with melanin than the royal family. Despite the event, lighting, and other factors, her blue eyes always stood out. Like the royal family, the Spencer family also has several members with blue eyes, such as her brother Charles, Earl of Spencer.

Prince Harry tends to have lighter blue eyes, which show some similarities to his Uncle Andrew's eyes in certain lighting. It is also worth noting that Harry's children have broken the blue-eyed trend in the family.

Meghan Markle is the first major indirect royal (given her connection to Harry) to have brown eyes, raising the odds in favor of more melanin. However, their son, Prince Archie, has blue eyes, the same shade as his father. The color of the eyes can be determined by several factors, and even if the parents have one color, another can develop, as we have seen.

Prince William having his mother's eyes is not surprising, as blue eyes are predominant in both families except for Prince Andrew. One might conclude that "all royal eyes are blue," but there is a change in this generation.

Princess Kate is the only member of the current British royal family to have green eyes, although they can appear light brown or hazel in certain lighting conditions. While the genetic rules suggest that blue and green eyes combined should result in offspring with either of those two colors, with a very low probability of brown, this was not the case with Kate.

Prince George, Prince William's eldest son and future king, has brown eyes, which is a departure from the blue eyes that have been predominant in the royal family for generations. He will be the first king in many generations to have eyes other than blue.

Princess Charlotte, the couple's only daughter, does indeed have blue eyes, which is expected with this genetic combination. There have been rumors of possible future babies, in which case there would be a possibility of a baby with green eyes, as they would have the potential to inherit different combinations of genes.
