A fresh-faced Prince William arrived at the University of St Andrews in late 2001 to study Art History. When the public found out that he had enrolled, the university saw a dramatic rise in the number of young, female applicants. After all, who doesn't dream of being swept off their feet by a prince, and a handsome one to boot.
Duchess Catherine, or Kate Middleton as she was then, also arrived at St Andrews in autumn 2001 to study Art History. Both William and Kate moved into rooms in St Salvator's Hall and the scene was set for what would be THE royal romance of the noughties.
And, we have to confess, we weren't shocked to learn that Tatler magazine had recently ranked St Salvator's Hall as one of the smartest university dormitories in Britain. The hall, nicknamed Sallies by students, was built in the 1930s and has a spectacular oak-paneled dining room with stained glass windows. Truly a setting fit for a future king!
