Buckingham Palace has just announced that Prince Philip († 99) died this morning on April 9th. Since then, expressions of mourning from all over the world have found their way to the Royal family. The Royal houses of other European countries are also paying their respect to the husband of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Royal families of Europe mourn Prince Philip
The Swedish Royal family posted a moving message on Instagram.“The Queen and I were deeply saddened to learn of the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip has been a great friend of our family for many years, a relation which we have deeply valued. His service to his country will remain an inspiration to us all. We offer our sincere condolences to Her Majesty The Queen. The Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom," says the post signed by King Carl Gustaf.
The Dutch royals also speak out on Instagram: "His lively personality never ceased to leave an unforgettable impression. Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy goes out to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and all the members of the Royal Family," write the members of the royal family and express their condolences.
Farewell to Prince Philip
The Norwegian King Harald also spoke out on their official website: "Our thoughts are with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of her family. We also send our condolences to the British people."
The Belgian Royal couple Philippe and Mathilde also said their goodbye on Instagram: "We wish to express our deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen, the British Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom. We will always cherish the memories of our warm encounters."
The Danish royal family confirms on Instagram that Queen Margrethe sent the Queen a personal message. The account also shared a painting of Prince Philip, on which he wears the Order of the Elephants, the Danish Order of Knights.
