Serving the royal family in "normal" times is certainly not an easy job, but in times of a global pandemic, it really demands some sacrifice as we've now learned. It turns out that 22 staff members have been in lockdown with the Queen (94) at Windsor Castle ever since she moved there with Prince Philip (98) before Easter. They have not seen their families since.

These men and women have given up their home lives to serve the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh for the entire duration of the COVID-19 crisis and were inspired to do so by a morale-boosting memorandum from Tony Johnstone-Burt, the Master of the Household for Her Majesty, as The Sun has revealed.
It's part of their "duty for the Queen"
In his memo, Johnstone-Burt (who served in the Royal Navy for 40 years) compared the staff's current situation to a long deployment at sea where sailors are also separated from their families for some months. The Vice-Admiral writes: "I'm sure that we shall emerge as a stronger, more considerate and more resilient Royal Household team as a result and able to do our duty for the Queen."

A royal insider also told The Sun that most of the senior staff for Her Majesty have moved to Windsor: "They won't be seeing their families because no risks can be taken and they can't go in and out. The most important thing is to protect the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh from the virus. If something happened to them it doesn’t bear thinking about."
