Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are on the move to Sandringham.
On Sept. 16, the royals hit the road for Aberdeen airport, exiting Balmoral Castle after a six-week holiday in Scotland. They were photographed leaving the residence and appeared in good spirits, waving to photographers from a chauffeur-driven vehicle.
Queen and Prince Philip leave Balmoral for Sandringham: Photos
In photos released by Daily Mail, Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh are seen greeting onlookers from the back of the car. Prince Philip flashes a smile while the Queen is slightly shadowed in her signature headscarf look.
The married couple of 72 years was also photographed at Aberdeen airport boarding a plane that will take them south to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip's early Sandringham stay in 2020
It's a rare new sighting of the Queen and Prince Philip, who have been vacationing in Scotland since early August. Last week, their plans for an unconventional Fall 2020 were announced, beginning with today's move to Sandringham. Normally, the Norfolk residence is their Christmas and winter holiday home, but the royal couple will instead have a brief stay there for at least the next few weeks.
A Buckingham Palace statement added: "Subject to the finalisation of the autumn programme, Her Majesty's intention is to return to Windsor Castle in October and to resume the use of Buckingham Palace for selected audiences and engagements. These plans will be kept under review and will of course be subject to all relevant guidance and advice."
Their day of travel back to England also comes amid headline-making news that Barbados will remove the Queen as its head of state by November 2021, the first time a country will do so since 1992.
