Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip may not be able to celebrate the holiday season in the traditional way this year, but there's one annual tradition that they're sticking with! That's because as ET Canada shares, the royals have already chosen their Christmas tree, and it certainly looks stunning at their current residence of Windsor Castle!
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip chose Norwegian spruce tree
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip would usually be spending Christmas at the Sandringham Estate, but the couple have cancelled their usual festivities because of health and safety guidelines. "Having considered all the appropriate advice," a representative for Buckingham Palace told ET Canada, "the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have decided that this year they will spend Christmas quietly in Windsor."
On Wednesday, it was revealed that the queen and Prince Philip have selected a 20-foot-tall Norwegian spruce as their Christmas tree this year! The Royal Collection trust posted a video on Instagram of the tree being felled at Windsor Great Park, then being carted off to its destination of Windsor Castle, where it gets a festive makeover for the holiday season.
Being together is what counts!
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's tree also originated from a place that's steeped in tradition for the royal family! "It is thought that Christmas trees have been sourced from the Great Park for Windsor Castle since the reign of Queen Victoria," the caption explains. As well, the post mentions that Windsor Castle's halls will be open for holiday visits beginning on December 3 for anyone who would like to check out the display in person!
