Lesley Manville has signed on to portray Princess Margaret in season 5 of The Crown.
On Thursday, the popular Netflix royal series confirmed the news on its Twitter account. Helena Bonham Carter will pass the role onto Manville for The Crown's fifth and final season, after playing the part in season 3 and the upcoming fourth season.
"I could not be happier to be playing Princess Margaret," Manville was quoted as saying. "The baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses and I really don't want to let the side down."

"Furthermore, to play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of a complete joy," Manville added. Staunton will portray Queen Elizabeth II for the first time in The Crown season 5, which will also be the last season of the series.

The Crown cast adds Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret
Manville, a 62-year-old English actress, is best known for her work with English filmmaker Mike Leigh as well as her role in Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2017.
The Crown season 4 could cover into 1980s and early '90s
It's thought that The Crown season 4 will wrap up toward the end of the 1980s or the early '90s, so Manville will presumably portray Princess Margaret in the later period of her life in her 60s and early 70s.
The Queen's only sister died in 2002 at the age of 71.

Fans still await confirmation of when The Crown season 4 will debut on Netflix. But, according to People, rumours suggest that a late 2020 release date looks likely for season 4, possibly sometime in November or December.
After that time, attention will no doubt shift to stars such as Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville, who will put the finishing touches on the acclaimed royal drama.
