Sarah Ferguson has penned a brand-new novel with a royal inspiration! As Hello! shares, Ferguson shared on social media on Wednesday that the book— which is a historical romance titled Her Heart for a Compass— will be released this summer.
Ferguson has written children's books and biographies before
Ferguson is already an established author, having published several autobiographies as well as fiction geared towards a much younger audience! As Hello! mentions, the Duchess of York has written several books for children, including Ballerina Rose and the Little Red series.
The royal took to Instagram to share the exciting news of her first novel. "Follow your heart. But do you dare?" Ferguson asks in a video clip, which shows her outside wearing period clothing while she talks about the book! "I’m delighted to announce my first historical romance novel, Her Heart for a Compass, which will be published in August!" she wrote in the accompanying caption.
Ferguson shares that her great-great aunt inspired the story
Ferguson then went on to reveal more information about her book. "Set in the nineteenth century, this is a coming-of-age story about being brave and rebellious, and daring to follow your heart against the odds," the Duchess of York wrote. As it turns out, she also has a personal connection to the story, which she shared is based on her great-great-aunt Lady Margaret!
"The story itself is based on one of my ancestors, and I've spent the last couple of years doing my own research into my family history with the help of the royal archives," Ferguson explained. "As a result, the book is rich in detail of the Victorian era, and draws on my own life journey and experiences too – so it is a story very close to my own heart."
Ferguson's book is published by Mills & Boon and HarperCollins, and co-written by historical fiction writer Marguerite Kaye. There's no doubt that royal fans will be excited to read this brand-new story from the Duchess of York, eagerly anticipating the release of Her Heart for a Compass later this year!
