Today Queen Elizabeth has just set a new record and reached an impressive new milestone in her reign! Her Majesty is now the fourth longest-reigning monarch in world history, by being the head of state for the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand for 68 years, and 34 days!

As of this past Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth had been sharing fourth place with K'inich Janaab' Pakal, who reigned from 29 July 615 to 31 August 683 in the seventh-century Mayan city-state of Palenque, but today she surpassed him and now he is in fifth place with a record of 68 years and 33 days.
Queen Elizabeth is currently the longest-reigning living monarch
Ahead of Her Majesty in the list of long-reigning monarchs are Louis XIV of France, who reigned from 14 May 1643 to 1 September 1715; Bhumibol Adulyadej, King of Thailand, who reigned from 9 June 1946 until his death on 13 October 2016; and Johann II of Liechtenstein, who reigned between 12 November 1858 and 11 February 1929.

Queen Elizabeth would have to be on the throne four more years to be in first place on the list. However, she is currently the longest-reigning living monarch, followed by the Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Hassanai Bolkiah, who as of today has reigned for 52 years and 108 days.
