Camilla now has a fashion dresser, Fiona Clare, who told ‘Vanity Fair’, “I wouldn't say she is into clothes, but she has found her niche. She is very elegant and she knows what works.” However, she does not always get it right even in recent years. In 2018 while visiting a famous yacht in London, she wore a black and white dress that left us confused. It seemed like a dress for a younger person or that needed to be combined with something like a blazer. On a side note, her heels did not match her color scheme, which did not help her cause.

In 2012 the then Duchess of Cornwall wore a purple ensemble to the Commonwealth Day celebrations, however, it is a “breach of protocol” according to ‘Express’, given that Royals must wear white, blue, or red to commemorate the union of the Commonwealth countries. Although, this was not much of a fuzz since other royals have also used different colors, such as Meghan Markle who wore green in 2020. Camilla recycled her purple hat in 2017 and 2022.

In 2005, during her wedding to King Charles, Camilla opted not to use a tiara — a Royal tradition in weddings — and became the first, and so far only, royal to not follow this tradition. It is possible that Camilla tread on the safe side and decided not to call too much attention to herself, since the public still was not happy with her.

Camilla has been criticized many times for her choice of feathery hats, which she seems very fond of. Although she’s been criticized by the public on many occasions, she has also shown up in Richard Blackwell’s Worst Dressed list. She topped the list in 1994 as Camilla Parker Bowles, but as Duchess, she came in third in 2007. According to the ‘Daily Mail’, Blackwell wrote, “The Duchess of Dowdy strikes again. In feathered hats that were once the rage, she resembles a petrified parakeet from the Jurassic age. A royal wreck.”

But it is not just her feathery hats. She caused quite a stir when she was seen wearing a bear fur hat on Christmas Day in 2010, which was allegedly made with real fur. Liz Jones from the ‘Daily Mail’ said, “The wearing by our Royal Family of a product that's deemed too cruel to be produced in this country — fur farms were banned here in 2000 — is simply unacceptable.”

In April 2022 she wore a combination that was odd for most, a leopard mask and slippers. Her black and white outfit was perfect for the occasion of visiting a local Islamic community in London but why wear a leopard mask instead of a black one? Aside from the mask, many thought it was strange that she wore slippers, but it seems that she was asked to wear them by the community.

She has also worn outfits that seemed remarkably similar to those worn by Princess Diana in the past. One particular dress Diana was known for is the “revenge dress”, which she wore in 1994. A year later, Camilla was introduced to the public as Charles’ new partner at the Ritz Hotel, where she wore an almost identical dress. Years later, in 2005, she wore another similar dress & choker at the Museum of Modern Art In New York.

Finally, She was accused of copying Diana once again in 2009 when she met Pope Benedict XVI. She wore a black ensemble that seemed very similar to that used by Diana in 1985 when she met Pope John Paul II. We will note, however, that black is a common choice for Royal women who meet the Pope.

Queen Camilla was known for many years as the “third wheel” in King Charles and Lady Diana’s relationship, as Diana famously said, “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.” Today she is Queen and Queen Consort to King Charles, with whom she has been married since 2005, after first presenting her as her future wife in 1995.

Her worst outfits

Since then she has been criticized many times over many things and had to tread carefully around the public. Every member of the Royal family must deal with wardrobe criticism but Camilla had to be extra careful just to stay off-radar. We can say she did so very successfully except for a few times in which she was not careful.
