The activists posted a photo on X, formerly Twitter, of nine members in Buckingham Palace wearing shirts that read "Not my King", which has become a sort of slogan for the group.
According to a statement released by Republic, six of the demonstrators were briefly detained before being released. The CEO of Republic, Graham Smith, called the action "historic", given that he claims it was the first protest inside the royal palace.
"This is a first, an anti-monarchy protest inside Buckingham Palace. A fantastic statement of intent, citizens standing up in the home of the monarchy to declare their opposition to hereditary power,” says Smith.
