The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton (41), just had another royal first! She made her debut as the Colonel-in-Chief of 1st the Queen’s Dragoon Guards (QDG) at Robertson Barracks, Dareham in Norfolk. This new role is another feather in the royal hat of the Duchess, who also holds the titles of Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm and the Royal Honorary Air Commodore of Royal Air Force Coningsby.

The QDG, formed in 1959, is renowned for its skills in reconnaissance. Princess Kate, donning a camouflage coat and helmet, rode in an armored vehicle and even tried her hand at flying a drone! The Princess also adorned her camo outfit with a red poppy pin, a symbol commemorating military members who have died in war.

A peek into the life of service personnel
Kate received a brief from the regiment's senior officers and experienced elements of operational life, from radio communication to reconnaissance drones. She also met with families of QDG personnel, learning about their experiences and the welfare support they receive.
The Princess of Wales also handed out awards, including long service and good conduct medals. In a unique turn of events, she also promoted the regiment's pony mascot, Trooper Longface Emrys Jones, from "Lance Corporal" to "Corporal."

While Princess Kate was busy with her military debut, her husband, Prince William, was wrapping up his trip to Singapore. Meanwhile, King Charles and Queen Camilla marked their presence at the first State Opening of Parliament of the new reign.
