Beloved Princess Charlene of Monaco (43) traveled to her home country South Africa in mid-May, where she campaigned for the protection of wild animals. At the end of May, the palace announced that the princess contracted a serious ear, nose, and throat infection that prevented her from traveling back home to Monaco.
Due to the infection, the 43-year-old missed her 10th wedding anniversary with Prince Albert II (63). The two had tied the knot in an incredible ceremony on July 1, 2011. The former swimmer spoke to the South African broadcaster Channel 24 about this difficult time.
Sick Princess Charlene misses her family
"It's been a trying time for me. I miss my husband and children dearly. What has been extremely difficult for me was when I was instructed by my medical team that I could not return home for my 10th wedding anniversary."
"Albert is my rock and strength and without his love and support, I would not have been able to get through this painful time," revealed the princess. It is currently unclear when the mother of the twins Gabriella (6) and Jacques (6) will be able to return to Monaco.
On her actual anniversary, Charlene posted beautiful footage from her 2011 wedding and wrote, "To all our families, friends and loved ones. Thank you for your love and support, and for the generosity, we have received during this decade of our marriage. With gratitude, we are able to continue our work through our foundations. Thank you for the anniversary gifts, for your generosity, and trust. With all our love and respect. Merci."
It has been especially trying as her husband Prince Albert is currently battling a third paternity suit. The Monarch of Monaco had two children out of wedlock before he married Charlene who do not hold royal titles whom he denied were his until paternity tests proved otherwise. Now a third child, again, born before Charlene and Albert married, has sued the Prince of Monaco for paternity.
