Why Prince Andrew was chatting with royal fans on Christmas

A fan captured the moment on camera and shared it with The Sun. Prince Andrew is heard asking, "Cold feet?" To which a woman replies, "Freezing."

The Prince then took several steps in and responded: "You know, the trick is to bring a newspaper. Stand on the newspaper and you'll insulate your feet."

Prince Andrew grinned and walked on swiftly, as the royal fan thanked him.

It was a rare moment in public for the Prince. He was also criticized by some for his unusual comment to freezing fans...

Though it does appear his advice – to stand on newspaper or cardboard in the cold – is an old strategy sometimes used during wintertime.
