But after Maxwell said she is "sure" it isn't real, several new details have emerged about the infamous photograph...

First, photographer Michael Thomas, who actually handled the photo when Virginia Giuffre showed it to the Mail on Sunday in 2011, explained how he knows the image is real.

He just told the Mail on Sunday: "For Ghislaine Maxwell to come out and say it was fake is ridiculous. I held the photo. It was a normal photograph. It was a physical print. It exists. I saw it and that's what I photographed"...

The photographer added: "They are basically accusing someone of faking it and me being party to it. It's not fake – and it never has been."

But that's not all. The Daily Mail has now revealed for the first time an image of the back of the photograph.

The back of the photograph shows it was, in fact, developed in March 2001, just days after Giuffre alleges that Prince Andrew abused her.

The new image via the Daily Mail shows stamps on the reverse side that say: "Kodak," the date "13MAR01," and "Walgreens one-hour photo," providing fuller context to the notorious photograph.

Previously, Prince Andrew claimed the picture was doctored. In his 2019 BBC interview, he added that he had "absolutely no memory of that photograph being taken."

From prison in January 2023, Ghislaine Maxwell, who appears in the background of the picture, said: "I don't believe it's real for a second. In fact, I'm sure it's not. There's never been an original, and further, there is no photograph. I've only ever seen a photocopy of it."

Virginia Giuffre, an alleged survivor of Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring, has said she no longer knows where the original print of the Prince Andrew photograph is.

She and the royal later settled a sexual abuse lawsuit out of court in 2022. The suit led to Prince Andrew being stripped of his royal privileges, though he admitted to no wrongdoing in his settlement.

New details about that Prince Andrew photo have emerged. For years, the picture of the royal and his accuser, Virginia Giuffre, has been at the centre of an alleged sexual abuse scandal.

But recently people including Ghislaine Maxwell have declared publicly that the picture is a fake.

However, the photographer who originally handled the picture has now spoken out to the press. And a new image in the Daily Mail claims to show "proof" the picture is real.
