- Queen Elizabeth II currently resides in Balmoral
- She is also to welcome the new Prime Minister there
- This deviates from the usual procedure
A new Prime Minister will soon be elected in Great Britain. Queen Elizabeth II (96) also has an important task: She must symbolically introduce the new head of government into office.
Queen Elizabeth II: Tradition is changed
The last 14 Prime Ministers she has had the privilege of appointing have always been at Buckingham Palace in London. As the BBC reports, citing the royal family, this tradition is now being changed.
The new Prime Minister is to travel with Boris Johnson to Balmoral in Scotland, where Queen Elizabeth II is currently residing. Of course, this change causes confusion, as the palace recently announced that the Queen would come to London for the important appointment.
Also Interesting:
The change of location was made to give everyone involved security. With the Queen now finding it increasingly difficult to travel, it might otherwise have been impossible for her to make it to London that day.
Such emergencies and plan changes should be avoided. In recent months, traditions of the British royal family have been changed more and more so that the Queen does not have to move outside the house too often.
For example, Prince Charles was allowed to step in at important events – for the heir to the British throne, this is a good exercise. But since only the Monarch can officially appoint the Prime Minister, Charles cannot do this job for his mother.
