Mike Tindall made an appearance on the BBC's The One Show on Tuesday and talked about his family holiday plans with Queen Elizabeth II. The former Rugby star and husband of Zara Phillips also revealed some facts about his and Zara's family life during the lockdown with their two daughters Mia and Lena.
Mike Tindall: Holidays with the Queen at Balmoral?
The son-in-law of Princess Anne made an appearance on the show via video-link and not only talked about his holiday plans with the Queen. He was asked by host Alex Jones if Her Majesty sends the children money (with her own face on it) in the mail on their birthday. Mike replied: "No my mum and dad still do though," and added, "it doesn't arrive in the post from the Queen."
Mia and Lena are apparently quite close with their great-grandmother as well as their grandmother and the family-of-four had plans to visit the Queen and Prince Philip at Balmoral this summer, but everything is a little different this year with the current coronavirus restrictions. "We did have plans," Mike Tindall revealed, "it would have been up in Scotland, but with COVID everything has been scaled back a bit."
Mike Tindall praises Princess Anne
He also praised his mother-in-law Princess Anne, who will turn 70 years old on Saturday, August 15, and talked about if there will be a big celebration for her birthday: "She's just an incredible woman in terms of how much work she can get through. We will be doing something but I am going to keep my lips sealed."
Then the conversation turned to family life during the pandemic and how much he cherishes the time with his children: "Lena is at that age where she just changes in weeks. I'm not enjoying where she is right now, she's learned how to get out of the bag when she is asleep. This morning she managed to wake up Mia," he revealed.
We will just have to wait and see if the Tindall/Phillips family make it up to Queen Elizabeth's estate in Balmoral, where everything is different this year. It would definitely be great to see the family's original holiday plans with the Queen come true, so Mia and Lena could spend some time with their great-grandmother!
