Meghan Markle has decided to pursue another exciting new endeavour— writing her first book! As Entertainment Tonight reports, the Duchess of Sussex made a statement on Tuesday revealing that she has written a children's book called The Bench, which will be published later this year.

Meghan reveals her children's book began as a poem

Meghan's children's book is said to focus on a "special bond between father and son -- as seen through a mother's eyes." In her statement announcing the book's release, the Duchess of Sussex shared that the idea behind it originated when she wrote a poem for Prince Harry on a special occasion.

"The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,” Meghan began her statement about the book. "That poem became this story." She shared that she worked with renowned illustrator Christian Robinson to add some "beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations" to go along with her words.

Meghan wanted her children's book to show "inclusive" fatherhood

Meghan went on to say that the illustrations "capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life." She expressed it was important to her "to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens," and hopes the story "resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine."

The Bench will be released next month on June 8— just in time for Father's Day, which falls on June 20 this year. It will be available in both print and audiobook format, with Meghan lending her voice to the recorded version. And her new book isn't the only exciting debut for Meghan this year— she and Harry are currently expecting their second child together!
