2022 was an important but above all sad year for King Charles III. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September.
Charles became Britain's new King and began leading many public events while the whole world watched.
Europe's royals mourn after another death
King Charles barely had time to grieve – but he now has to say goodbye to a family member again.
His cousin Maximilian, Margrave of Baden died on Dec. 29 at the age of 89. The House of Baden announced the sad news on its website.
He was also a nephew of the late Prince Philip, husband of the late Queen. His mother Princess Theodora was Prince Philip's sister.
The British Royal Family has not yet commented on the death of their German relative.
