- When will Charles be crowned king?
- The coronation date has been fixed
- Every detail on the ceremony
Planning for the official coronation of King Charles III is already underway. The date for the celebration has apparently been leaked: June 3, 2023 is supposed to be the date. Although Buckingham Palace has not yet communicated an official date, Bloomberg claims to have learned of the secret coronation plans.
Accordingly, the ceremony will take place about nine months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The coronation almost falls on a special date: 70 years and one day before, Charles' mother was crowned as the new British monarch on June 2, 1953. She was only 27 years old at the time. Charles, on the other hand, will be 74 years old on his coronation.
Coronation of Charles: Special date chosen
This will make him the oldest British monarch ever. The previous record holder was King William IV, who was crowned in 1830 at the age of 64.
If the coronation should take place on June 3, 2023, then it is very likely that June 2, a Friday, will be designated a national holiday. It will probably not be a pompous ceremony: Apparently, King Charles wants a smaller, shorter, and cheaper coronation in view of the current financial crisis in Great Britain.

More than 8,000 guests from all over the world attended the Queen's coronation in 1953. The ceremony cost 1.57 million pounds at the time - the equivalent of 46 million pounds today, or 53 million euros.
